About Rabat

Rabat is the capital city of Morocco. It is located on the Atlantic Ocean and has over 2 million inhabitants, making it the country's second largest city, after Casablanca.
As the capital, Rabat is where the Moroccan government main offices are located as well as the Royal Palace home to HM King Mohammed VI. It has a rich history but is a fairly new capital, as France gave it this status in 1912, and it remained the capital after independence in 1956.

Rabat is a very pleasant capital, majestically beautiful and proud of its heritage. The boulevards are wide, the Souqs are authentic and there's a cosmopolitan feel to the outdoor cafes and well-dressed middle classes that live and work here. As with many Moroccan cities, it's divided into the Medina (old-walled city) and the Ville Nouvelle (new city, built by the French) which emphasizes the genuine blend of modernity and rich history. Arabic and French are the 2 most common languages you'll hear on the streets of Rabat, but in hotels and restaurant English is widely spoken as well.

Rabat is very well-connected through its own airport (Rabat-Sale airport) as well as Casablanca airport, just one-hour drive from Rabat City center. There are daily direct flights to Europe and regular direct flights to African, Middle-East as well as North-American destinations.
